🌿 Vintage watches, Tao pushback, and an affordable omakase
Rise and shine, North Brooklyn!
We’ve curated a set of three news stories, some interesting events, and photos we love to help get you through the week.
As always, readable in under 5 minutes.
A vintage watch repair shop
Max Von Esser repairs classic watches from his Greenpoint apartment.
What’s going on: Max Von Isser, a local Greenpoint resident, repairs and restores vintage watches under his business "Wear Has The Time Gone" from his apartment. He mainly handles online orders but also conducts pop-up sales and repairs near McCarren Park. Von Isser is self-taught and has started a YouTube channel to share watchmaking tips.
Why it’s important: Max is breathing new life into old timepieces that otherwise would be neglected. Check out his awesome collection and work on his Etsy page.

Local politicians oppose Tao Hospitality Group
A recent letter was sent to the group’s owners opposing their expansion.
What’s going on: Greenpoint elected officials, including Assembly Member Emily Gallagher, State Senator Kristen Gonzalez, and City Council Member Lincoln Restler, have urged Tao Hospitality Group to find a new location for its proposed nightclub on Franklin Street. The officials cite significant community opposition, including concerns about noise, traffic, and the impact on local wildlife.
Why it’s important: Tao Hospitality Group certainly would bring a different cultural element to Franklin Avenue. Known for their swanky, high-energy night clubs and restaurants, Tao may find it difficult to mold to the Greenpoint community. The venue has yet to receive liquor license, so there is still a chance for the community to share additional opinions.
