New renderings for waterfront towers
Designs unveiled for the buildings at 1 Java.
What’s going on: New renderings for 1 Java Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn reveal an ambitious two-tower residential complex designed by Marvel Designs. Built by Lendlease and Aware Super, the development will feature 834 rental units, 30% of which are tagged as affordable housing. The taller tower will rise 37 stories, and the project will include retail spaces (13k square feet) and a scenic esplanade (18k square feet) along the East River.
Why it’s important: 1 Java Street will continue the long effort to re-zone and develop the Greenpoint waterfront in accordance with the Waterfront Alliance’s Waterfront Edge Guidelines (WEDG), which are intended to ensure resilient, ecological, and accessible waterfront development. Significant sustainability elements have also been included in the buildings construction.

A new opening cooking up plant-based Dominican cuisine.
What’s going on: Next Stop Vegan, a plant-based restaurant with a Dominican twist, is opening a new location in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in mid-July. Founded by Blenlly Mena and Javier Saba, the restaurant offers a variety of vegan dishes inspired by Mena's Dominican heritage, including burritos, empanadas, and sandwiches. Unlike the Brooklyn Heights location, Next Stop Vegan’s Greenpoint outpost will feature a large backyard for shaded outdoor dining.
Why it’s important: This new Next Stop Vegan location brings a diverse, plant-based dining option to Greenpoint that showcases Dominican and other Latin American flavors.
